Jack in the Box: SSGMR Age 2, Week 2

At my house, the fun often starts before we are fully ready for the day.  Here is an activity from Slow and Steady, Get Me Ready (Age 2, Week 2) that your little ones might enjoy:

“Materials” needed:

  1. A box
  2. A young kid, preferably one that is not afraid of the dark

Instructions:

1.  Place the box on the floor:

2.  Help your little one get tucked into the box:

At this point, Feisty, 4, got scared of the darkness in the box and wanted out.  Hence my instruction to use a kid who is NOT afraid of the dark.

3.  Gently close the flaps of the box over your little one.  This is Enigma, 2:

4.  Say the following poem:

Jack in the box all shut up tight.

Not a breath of air, not a ray of light.

How dark it must be, you cannot see,

Open the box and out “pops” he!

When you say “pop!,” encourage your child to “pop” out of the box:

This activity was a hit for several days around here.  If you don’t have a box, you can modify the activity by using a laundry basket with or without a blanket.
